A Man Called Ove – Fredrik Backman

I have been far from productive today due to the ugly weather here in VB- BUT I did take my time snuggled up on the couch with coffee finishing this book. I never would have picked up or known about “A Man Called Ove” had in not been for a close friend who tagged me in a Facebook post about a book club at Slover Library in Norfolk, VA. I looked into the book club and this was the chosen book for November. I am SO beyond excited to go to this event and discuss this amazing story. After I looked into the book club I immediately ordered it on amazon and started reading. (Thank you- Amazon Prime 1-Day Shipping)

WOW where do I start with this story? Ove is a peculiar set-in-his-ways Swedish man living alone after the death of his loving wife. He has routines, principles, and an extremely short fuse. His neighbors’ call him bitter until one day when a new family moves in across the street from him. The family consists of young couple with two young daughters and a baby along the way. They meet for the first time after Patrick- the husband runs over Oves’ mailbox. This is the first of many comical adventures the family includes Ove in whether he is willing to participate or not.

It’s extremely hard to summarize this story without entirely giving away the plot. This book hits on topics such as depression, loneliness, acceptance, and death. The author tied these topics together beautifully. By the end of this book you are rooting for Ove as if he is a part of your own family. I encourage anyone and everyone to read this story. (Warning: does contain subjects on suicide) Here is a summary on GoodReads.
